Ghana Union Stor-Stockholm (GUSS) marked a historic milestone on 31 May 2026 with the celebration of its 43rd Union Anniversary at Sensus, Medborgarplatsen. The event brought together members, invited guests, sister associations, friends of Ghana, and representatives from the Embassy of Ghana in Denmark to reflect on the Union’s journey, celebrate its achievements, and officially launch a new digital chapter through the GUSS Connect mobile app.

The celebration was held under the theme:

“Celebrating 43 Years of Unity, Service and Progress in Information Technology.”

This theme captured both the proud history of Ghana Union Stor-Stockholm and its forward-looking vision to strengthen community engagement through modern digital tools.

The programme opened with the arrival and registration of guests, greetings, seating, and a warm atmosphere supported by soft Ghanaian and highlife music. The opening ceremony included an opening prayer, the national anthem, and welcome remarks by the MC and Chairman.

A major highlight of the event was the Chairman’s Address, delivered by Emmanuel Ima Gandah, President of Ghana Union Stor-Stockholm. In his address, he reflected on the Union’s 43-year journey of unity, service, and community leadership. He acknowledged the contributions of founding members, past leaders, executives, volunteers, and members who have helped sustain GUSS over the years.

The Chairman also highlighted key achievements and milestones of the Union, including its continued role in bringing Ghanaians together in Stockholm, supporting community welfare, promoting cultural identity, and building stronger connections across generations.

One of the most significant moments of the celebration was the official launch of GUSS Connect, the new mobile-first digital platform for Ghana Union Stor-Stockholm. The launch marked an important step in the Union’s evolution — from the era of paper announcements, printed invitations, community notices, and traditional communication, to websites and online platforms, and now into a modern mobile app designed to bring the community closer together.

GUSS Connect will serve as the digital home of the Union, giving members easier access to events, membership information, community news, trusted services, announcements, and important Union updates. The app is designed to improve communication, increase engagement, and make Union information more accessible to members, friends of Ghana, and people of Ghanaian origin in Stockholm.

The Special Guest Address was delivered by H.E. Dr. Margaret M. Chebere, Ambassador of Ghana to Denmark. She spoke on the theme of the celebration and highlighted the importance of unity, service, progress, and digital transformation in strengthening diaspora communities. Her message encouraged the community to embrace innovation while continuing to preserve the values of togetherness, cultural pride, and service to one another.

The celebration was also honoured by the presence of representatives from the Embassy of Ghana in Denmark. The Embassy delegation included H.E. Dr. Margaret M. Chebere, Ambassador of Ghana to Denmark, Rt. Rev. Isaac Clive Mould, Deputy Head of Mission, Mrs. Barbara Addo, Head of Chancery, and Mrs. Joycelyn Narelle Atiase, Trade.

Their presence added great significance to the occasion and reflected the continued partnership between Ghana Union Stor-Stockholm, the Embassy, and the Ghanaian community in Sweden.

Following the main addresses, the programme included a question-and-answer segment, giving members and invited guests the opportunity to engage, reflect, and contribute to discussions on the Union’s future direction, the role of digital transformation, and how GUSS Connect can support stronger community participation.

The celebration continued with the Anniversary Cake Cutting and Toast, followed by group photos, refreshments, and informal networking. These moments provided an opportunity for members, guests, and community leaders to connect, share memories, and celebrate the achievements of the Union in a joyful and relaxed atmosphere.

Solidarity messages were also delivered by sister associations, including the Ghanaian Ladies Association, GaDangme Association, and Ghana Youth, as well as invited guests and members. Their messages highlighted the importance of collaboration, unity, youth engagement, and continued partnership among Ghanaian and African community organisations in Stockholm.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Secretaries, followed by a closing prayer and departure.

The 43rd Anniversary celebration was not only a moment to honour the past, but also a strong statement about the future of Ghana Union Stor-Stockholm. With the launch of GUSS Connect, the Union has taken a major step toward building a more connected, informed, and digitally engaged community.

As GUSS continues its journey, the message remains clear:

Ghana Union for All Ghanaians.
