Many Swedes are not satisfied with their sex life

In a comparison among the four Nordic countries, Swedes have come out as those least satisfied with their sex lives. They also fantasize most about group sex. As many as 37 per cent of Swedes dream about group sex. Other sex fantasies that are high on the Nordic list have to do with sex with friends, visiting swingers clubs and having sex at places with a high risk of being caught.

In its yearly poll (Kådiskollen), RFSU (The Swedish National Board for Sexual Information) interviewed a total of 5,497 statistically chosen individuals in the age group 15 – 74 in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland who said they have had sex at least once about their attitudes to sex and their sex habits.

28 per cent of the 1,206 swedes who answered said there were “not at all” or “not especially” satisfied with their sex life. Finland has the same percentage of dissatisfied whereas Norwegians and Danes said they were more satisfied.

“We are perhaps a little stressed and have higher expectations in Sweden and this is not very good for our sex life,” says Maleva Ivarsson, a Swedish sexologist.

That sex is important was confirmed by the study. And it seems sex is a little more important for men than for women. But only half of the men said they were satisfied with their sex life.

Even when we come down to it, we (Swedes) are worst in the use of condoms – topping the Nordic statistics in unprotected sex. The worst offenders are in the 21 – 35 age group. It is in this group that we find, unsurprisingly, the greatest cases of chlamydia and unwanted pregnancies.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel for the youth. In past years, 20 per cent said they didn’t used any protection at all. But this year, that percentage has dropped to 12.
