Non-European youth players to be fingerprinted
Migrationsverket has decided that all non-European football players who take part in the annual Gothic Cup for the youth will be fingerprinted before getting a visa for Sweden. This will make it difficult for players who jump camp to seek asylum with false stories. The fingerprints will made available to the authorities in all Schengen countries who can easily identify such people if they should seek asylum in a European country other than Sweden. Five players from Tanzania disappeared after this year's tournament. None of them has as yet sought asylum in Sweden. But Leif Andersson, head of the asylum unit of Migrationsverket in Göteborg, says most of them use to wait some time before seeking asylum so that the link between the tournament and the quest for asylum becomes less obvious. Each year The Gothia Cup in Göteborg draws thousands of young players from around the world playing in different age categories. Ghanaian youth have participated in the contest a number of times.
