THE EXECUTIVE YEARLY REPORT ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE GHANA UNION – 2006- 7

Fellow members welcome to this annual general meeting. In our midst is a representative of the NDC to observe our elections.
Please join me in applauding for him. Other organisations like AFRIS, Friendship, GaDangme and the Cameroon Association were also invited but never we heard from them.

It is unfortunate that the original date for this meeting was postponed because of my sudden illness. Thanks for your support during the hard times at the hospital and when I was discharged.

I would like to express my profound appreciation to you all for the honour bestowed on me in 2005 to lead the Ghana Union in Stockholm until today. It was challenging but great numbers of things have also been learnt. That epoch is now coming to an end.

Activities:
Executive of 9 with only one female. Three members resigned and were replaced.

Public meetings were attended at the Kulturförvaltningen,
Folkets Hus and Järva Folkets Park. Discrimination Ombudsman. Migration Board, Centre against Racism among others.

Travels:

• The Ghana at 50 led to an Alliance of Nordic Ghana Unions meetings in Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen.
• African Diaspora in Sweden delegation to Paris Conference and the
• Network- Voluntary Repatriation project of Migration Board in Växjö and to Ghana 2006

PROJECTS

• Campaign for immigrants to vote in the General election here.
• Women’s Day 2006 Ghana Ambassador in Denmark attended.
• End of year party with Friendship Association in 2006

• HIV /Aids prevention 2007. 2008 has been applied.
• Integration by culture with several groups
• Dues reform; families, singles and the youth.  Paying in slip
• Öppna Kanalen TV; Sudan organisation time. GUSS member.

• Fashion show for the youth

Economy

The Executive took over in 2006 with a fortune of 11.868,46

We sourced for project funding for over 228.860 krs from Kulturförvaltningen, Lafa, AFRIS, HSN and Migrationsverket CENTRUM mot Racism among others.

We have also paid 10.000 for Öppna Kanalen. Our programmes will start in May for 12 months.

Today, we have in our accounts 6.343,36
New Government policy (framework) on sourcing of funds, therefore applied for activity support from Kulturförvaltning and for prevention of HIV/Aids-STI at HSN before end of year.

The Union is 25 old in May and I encourage all to celebrate it.

Thank you for your support to lead the Union during my term. Special thanks go to Suberu, Akolor, Sapathy, Adu Boahene, the Executive Committee and to the members in general for seeing me through the two-year term.
