Eight are in the running for President in Ghana

Seven Political Parties and an Independent Candidate on Friday were endorsed by the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest for December 7th Presidential polls, whilst two parties and an Independent candidate were disqualified for falsification of documents.

The Presidential Candidates for the seven parties were; New Patriotic Party's, (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; National Democratic Congress' (NDC), Professor John Evans Atta Mills; Convention People's Party's (CPP), Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom; and Peoples National Convention's (PNC), Dr. Edward Nasigrie Mahama.

Others were Democratic Freedom Party's (DFP), Emmanuel Ansah-Antwi; Democratic Peoples Party's (DPP), Mr Thomas Ward Brew; and Mr Kwamena Adjei of the Reformed Patriotic Democrats.

The nomination papers of the New Vision Party (NVP), Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and an Independent candidate, Mr Richard Nixon Tetteh were rejected for falsification of documentation. Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, EC Chairman at the close of the two-day nomination declared the eight candidates duly elected.

The EC Chairman however cautioned the candidates that the endorsement of the nomination forms was based on the signing of the Statutory Declaration form saying, "we will now take our time to scrutinize the details provided, any false declaration is a crime and the culprit would face the full rigours of the law."
