Hälsoseminarium med AFRIS, lördagen 26/1

I lördags höll Afrikanska Rådet I Sverige (AFRIS) hälsoseminarium i Kista träff. Föreläsare på plats var Julie Ikomi-Kumm och Anthony Obila.

Julie Ikomi-Kumm har lång nationell och internationell erfarenhet som biokemist, bland annat på Lunds Universitet. Hon är idag drivande bakom företaget InterFlux som hjälper kunder med material och kunskap inom hälsobyggande.

Hennes föreläsning hade temat ”Min hälsa är min framgång” och spände över flera intressanta ämnen såsom immunförsvarets roll i uppkomsten av och skyddet mot olika sjukdomar. En viktig punkt handlade om den positiva effekten med amning av spädbarn och riskerna med att inte amma.

Anthony Obila är aktiv som föreläsare om sin HIV-sjukdom samt aktiv för att politiskt lyfta fram frågan om Hiv-positivas situation. Han berättade utifrån sina egna erfarenheter om hur det är att leva med sjukdomen och omgivningens reaktioner.

Det är AFRIS intention att fortsätta med seminarier framöver och att försöka nå ut med föreläsarnas budskap till fler människor. Nästa AFRIS-aktivitet ser ut att bli ett ungdomsseminarium. Preliminärt datum: lördagen den 23/2.

AFRIS held a health seminar at Kista Träff on Saturday, January 26th on HIV/AIDS. The guest speakers were Julie Ikomi-Kumm and Anthony Obila.

Julie Ikomi-Kumm has a wide national and international experience as a biochemist. She has worked in many places including Lunds University. Today, she is the driving force behind InterFlux, a company that helps its clients with material and information in health matters.

She talked on the theme ‘My health is my success’ and discussed several interesting subjects like the role of the immune system in contracting and protecting oneself against different diseases. She talked about the positive effects of breastfeeding on the child and the risks involved when women do not breastfeed their children.

Anthony Obila is a frequent speaker on his HIV sickness and is also active in political work to raise awareness of the situation of people with HIV. He spoke about his own experiences of living with the disease and the reactions of the people surrounding him.

AFRIS intends to continue with the series of health seminars and will make sure that the messages from the seminars reach a wider audience. The next AFRIS activity will be a seminar for the youth. The tentative date for this seminar is Saturday, February 23rd.
