Ghana's elections in the Swedish media
One will have to search long, very long indeed, to get anything on Ghana's successful elections in the Swedish media. For some of us, the reason is clear: we did not kill each other, we did not destroy any property and we are not involved in any intractable disputes over the results and wondering who really won. Such things just don't make any interesting reading. On December 5th, the nation's largest daily, Dagens Nyheter, carried a lengthy article titled "Radio reigns in Ghana" in its arts section about radio announcers in Ghana and their role in the impending elections. The article also talked about the female author Amma Darko and her novels (Read that article here). On December 10th, three days after the elections, Svenska Dagbladet carried a Reuters report saying Ghana's elections would go to a second round (Read that report here). On the same day, Dagens Nyheter reported on the elections - in all of five short lines. Well, we are not worried. The rest of the world is pouring superlatives on us as we hold our breath till December 28th.
