Agoroma performs in Rinkeby

The Agoroma Cultural Troupe performed at Rinkeby Torget as part of the union's campaign to get Africans to participate in the election process due in Septemeber. The drumming at the open space attracted passers by who willingly accepted the flyers being distributed. Members of the Friendship Association and the Gadangbe Group, partners in the Val2006 project, were also present as usual to help in spreading the message to all. Agoroma's performance is one in a series to help the project. Performances have already been made in Kista, Husby, and Skäholmen. You can meet Agoroma in Farsta Centrum next Saturday.

African Churches in Stockholm have a barbecue

African Church organisations in Stockholm met at Egeby Gard, Jarva Fältet, to barbecue and have fun away from their places of worship. A surprise visitor was Stockholm mayor Annika Billstrom, who suddenly appeared in the midst of the crowd. Ghana Union donated 1000 kr to the African churches and used the occasion to give information on the need for Africans to participate in the voting process. Election flyers were distributed.

Afris elects new officers

The African Council in Sweden (AFRIS) elected new officers at their annual general meeting held at Brygghuset in Stockholm on Saturday August 19. Rishala Njie was elected as the new head of the council. Suberu Salaam becomes the new secretary. Grace Mahama retained her position as Treasurer while George Adu-Boahene was elected as the youth leader. Ghana Union has been one of the most active members of Afris and it is encouraging that many members of the union have been given positions in the executive of the council. We welcome the new exective members.

Jerry gets better

Union president, Micah Kissi, led a delegation of union representatives to visit our energetic Organising Secretary, Jerry Tetteh, who has been recuperating after a short illness. He brought greetings from the entire union to Jerry. Kissi expressed delight that Jerry was recovering well. He added that even though his absence from the activites of the union were been greatly felt, he should recover fully before resuming his duties. He then presented Jerry with flowers on behalf of the union.
